How that compares to a riding or zero-turn mower
Here's the part most people don't expect: our robots cost about the same as the gas mower you'd buy to do the work yourself. A residential riding or zero-turn from a name brand runs anywhere from $3,200 to $12,000+: a Toro TimeCutter or Cub Cadet Ultima ZT2 starts around $3,000–$3,800, a 60-inch Toro TimeCutter MAX lands near $5,700, and a premium John Deere Z700-series like the Z760R tops $11,000. And that's before fuel, oil changes, blade sharpening, storage space, and the hours you'll spend in the seat every week.
- You ride it — 1–3 hours of your weekend, every week
- Gas, oil, filters, and blade sharpening on you
- Loud, hot, and needs a shed or garage bay
- Depreciates the day you roll it home
- It mows itself — quietly, daily, while you do anything else
- Maintenance, blades, and monitoring handled by us
- No fuel, no fumes, parks on a small charging base
- Or lease-to-own, so a perfect lawn starts at $150/mo
Riding and zero-turn prices reflect 2026 manufacturer and dealer pricing for residential models from Toro, Cub Cadet, and John Deere; figures are illustrative, vary by deck size and dealer, and exclude ongoing fuel and maintenance costs.
Or lease to own — your subscription pays it off
Not ready to drop thousands up front? Start on any Serene subscription and we'll put part of every monthly payment toward owning the exact mower already running on your lawn. You get a perfect lawn from day one, and steadily build equity toward owning the machine outright.
- Subscribe and start mowing. Pick the plan that fits your property — we install the matching robot and it goes to work immediately.
- Most of every payment builds ownership credit. We credit 70% of each monthly payment toward the mower's purchase price. The remaining 30% keeps covering maintenance visits, blade replacements, GPS monitoring, and support — exactly as it always has.
- Reach the price, own the mower. When your accrued credit equals the manufacturer purchase price, the robot is yours to keep — no balloon payment, no markup.
- Or buy out early, anytime. Want it sooner? Pay the difference between the purchase price and the credit you've already built, and ownership transfers on the spot.
How long until it's yours?
Because 70% of each subscription payment becomes ownership credit, the timeline depends on your plan and the mower it deploys. Here's roughly how it pencils out for each tier:
| Plan | Mower you own | Purchase price | Credit / month (70%) | Time to ownership |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Serene Basic $150/mo |
Husqvarna Automower® 410 iQ | $2,599 | $105 | ~25 months about 2 years |
| Serene Plus $250/mo |
Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD | $3,299 | $175 | ~19 months about 1½ years |
| Serene Pro $300/mo |
Yarbo Y40 Lawn Mower | $4,199 | $210 | ~20 months about 1½ years |
| Serene Premier $375–400/mo |
Yarbo Y40 All-Season Pro | $6,849 | $262.50 | ~26 months about 2 years |
Estimates assume 70% of each payment is applied as ownership credit and exclude taxes and optional add-ons. Most members reach full ownership in roughly 2½ to 3 years, and can buy out the remaining balance at any point to own sooner.
After you own it
Keep the service, drop the equity portion. Once the mower is yours, you can step down to a maintenance-only plan for upkeep, blades, and monitoring — or take over care entirely. It's your machine either way.
Professional installation, always included. Whether you buy outright or lease to own, our team maps your yard, sets GPS boundaries, and installs the charging station so it works from day one.
Manufacturer warranty stays with you. Every unit is covered by the manufacturer's full warranty, which carries through to you on ownership.
